What is the mission trip about?
Caritas SED Galle (CSG) is the diocesan centre for social-economic development of the Diocese of Galle (southern Sri Lanka) working in collaboration with Caritas Sri Lanka. CSG implements projects to uplift underprivileged villagers; to create awareness for their self-improvement; to promote peace and harmony among the different groups, and to provide support during times of disasters and emergencies.
The challenges of providing accessible drinking water and the severe lack of sanitation for the villagers have been mounting. In October 2014, CHARIS provided funding for the building of 50 latrines in the Deniyaya area to help with this dire sanitation situation. CHARIS will also be conducting a bio-sand water filtration system (BSF) training for the villagers – a solution first introduced by volunteer Mr. Roger Tan.
Come early December, a CHARIS mission team will be deployed to help Deniyaya residents with the building of these toilets and also to implement the BSF system. Join us as we work hand-in-hand with our brothers and sisters in need to help rebuild their homes and their lives. Come experience faith in action, the joy of mission work, and fellowship with team members and beneficiaries.
