September 2017:

More than 290,000 people have fled the violence in Rakhine State in Myanmar to Bangladesh. The UN estimates the number of displaced persons from Rakhine State could rise to 370,000 as hundreds of people are crossing the border every day.

Caritas Bangladesh has reported that many have cleared forests in the Cox Bazar district to set up temporary shelters. or even slept in the open air. Many of these, who were affected by the violence in Rakhine, carry little on their back and have walked for days barefoot to reach safety in Bangladesh. However, many arrive in dire need of food and clean water.

In close coordination with the local government and UN clusters, Caritas Bangladesh is aiming to reach more than 49,000 displaced persons with food, clean drinking water and cooking essentials.
