An earthquake of magnitude 8.0 strikes the central coast of Peru.
Situation

On Wednesday 15 August 2007, an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the moment magnitude scale hit the central coast of Peru. The epicentre was located 150 km south-southeast of Lima at a depth of 39 km. In the immediate aftermath of the quake, the death toll reported was 450 while more than 1,500 were injured. The earthquake also caused massive damage to the cities of Adobe and Brick in Peru’s southern desert. |
