Natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, floods, etc can cause property and environmental damage as well as lost lives and displaced people.

CHARIS (and its precedessor ACCT) have provided humanitarian aid in disasters over the years.

Philippines Typhoon Washi

December 2011

Tropical Storm Washi (Local name “Sendeng”) made landfall on Friday evening, 16 Dec 2011 in the eastern province of Agusan del Sur and crossing over northern Mindanao causing severe flash flooding and mudslides across northern Mindanao, particularly in Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental and province Iligan City in Lanao del Norte province.
